Dozier Wins Long Jump at Steve Scott Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. — Rahsaan Dozier won the men's long jump with a mark of 7.45m to highlight Cal State Fullerton track and field's Friday showing at the Steve Scott Invitational.

Dozier posted his winning mark of 7.45m (+1.7m) on his fifth attempt in the men's long jump to claim gold in the event. The mark is the third best in The Big West this season and fifth best in program history. Teammate Andrew Cornthwaite jumped for a mark of 7.31m to claim seventh. 

Mia Bergman, the school record holder in the women's mile, ran a time of 4:45.52 in the event Friday to earn silver. Nanette Novak finished ninth with a 5:01.51, Bella Smith 18th with a 5:10.21 and Destiny Lopez 25th with a 5:15.19. Fullerton had one additional podium finisher on the night in Cat Dahlberg, who placed third in the women's javelin with a toss of 40.11m. The mark is tied for fifth best in school history. 

The Titans featured strong performances in the men's and women's 800m, with Grace Goldsworthy claiming fourth place on the women's side with a 2:09.89. Jonathan Pfeiffer also finished fourth on the men's side, clocking a time of 1:51.54. Jicel Fernandez took sixth in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:08.59. 

Fullerton had additional throwers post strong marks on the day, including Evalen Garcia in the women's hammer throw. Garcia tossed a 51.23m in the event to claim fifth. Natalia Delgado took ninth with a 44.53m and Teresa Chang 10th with a 43.64m. Justice Mephors placed ninth in the men's hammer throw, posting a 53.13m. 

The Titans return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 27, for the second and final day of the Steve Scott Invitational.
