IRVINE, Calif. - Senior catcher
Jessi Alcala was named the Big West Field Player of the Week (March 18) after her success at the plate in Cal State Fullerton's series win in UC Davis, the conference announced Monday.
Alcala became the second Titan to receive Field Player of the Week honors this season. She slashed .625/.600/1.000 over the weekend after going 5-for-8 at the plate with three doubles, four RBI and a run. She drew one walk and did not strike out once across all three games.
Alcala is on a five-game hitting streak with six multi-RBI and nine multi-hit games. Her two doubles in Game One of Friday's doubleheader against UC Davis tied her season-high and helped the Titans win their conference-opening game, 5-3.
She leads the team with seven doubles and is in a three-way tie with Cal Poly's Jessica Clements and UC Riverside's Kat Montuya for the most in The Big West. Alcala's 21 runs batted in leads the Titans and is tied for first across the conference with UC Santa Barbara's Ainsley Waddell.
Standing 2-1 in conference play, the Titans continue their road stand at Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, March 23. The Titans and Roadrunners kick off the series with a doubleheader at noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The series will conclude on Sunday starting at noon.
