Titans Shutout UCSB in Game Three to Secure Series Win

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton shutout UC Santa Barbara in game three of the series to secure a 5-0 victory and take the series Saturday afternoon at Goodwin Field.

With the win the Titans improve to 16-10 on the year and 9-3 in Big West play.

The Titans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. With the bases loaded Maddox Latta hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Moises Guzman and get Fullerton on the board.

One batter later, Carter White hit a two-run double to center field to drive in Cole Urman and Jack Haley to give the Titans a 3-0 advantage.

Fullerton extended its lead in the fifth inning on a two-run single to left field by Urman to score Nate Nankil and Zach Lew, giving the Titans a 5-0 lead that they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.

Evan Yates had one of his best starts as a Titan, pitching six shutout innings, allowing eight hits while striking out seven batters to earn his first win of the year and improve to 1-0.

Trevor Hinkel moved to the bullpen this weekend and gave the Titans a three-inning save, his first of the year. Hinkel allowed just one hit while walking three and striking out five batters.

After giving up 14 runs in game one of the series, the Titans pitching staff bounce back in a big way to allow just one run in game two while shutting out the Gauchos in the series finale.

Fullerton handed Reed Moring his first loss of the season, dropping to 2-1 on the year. Reed gave up five runs (three earned) on four hits while walking four and striking out one in 4.1 innings pitched.

With the series win, the Titans have now won six consecutive series, tying the longest streak since 2018. It is also the first time the Titans have won two out of three games in a series against UCSB since 2017.

The Titans are back in action Tuesday night for a midweek matchup at USC. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. PT.
