SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's tennis team lost their semifinal match up against UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Tennis Championships on Friday by a score of 4-0.
The Gauchos were the top seed in the tournament and the 27th ranked team in the nation. They previously swept the Titans on April 17th. The Gauchos will contest the Big West Championship with the No. 2 seeded Cal Poly tomorrow.
Under interim head coach Ellie Edles Williams, the Titans completed their season with a 16-8 overall record and went 5-4 in conference play. They finish the season ranked as the #74th team in the country.
The Gaucho started the match with a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. They won both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-2.
In singles play, the Gauchos took the first set in 5 of 6 courts with Camila Garcia the only Titan to win the first set. The Titans would have a bit more success in the second set as YuSeung Suh and Kaytlin Taylor won their second set after dropping the first.
However, the Gauchos quickly went up ahead 2-0 after Amelia Honer defeated Juliette Daries 6-1, 6-2.
Camille Kiss defeated Eira Tobrand in No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-3 and shortly after, Elizabeta Volodko defeated Natalie Duffy 6-4, 6-4 in No. 2 singles to seal the 4-0 match for the Gauchos.
