Titans Rally to Defeat Hawai'i 4-3

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Cal State Fullerton women's tennis made a remarkable comeback Saturday afternoon to defeat conference rival, Hawai'i, 4-3. 

The Titans improve to 14-2 (3-0) to lead the Big West Conference overall for the season. Hawai'i falls to 6-4 (2-2). 

Doubles play proved to be a rough start as the Titans lost the point to Hawai'i early on in the match. 

The tandem of Genevieve Zeidan and Masako Makiba fell to Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma 6-0 at court number two. Hawai'i locked in the doubles point shortly after when Caisey Lee Emery and Danielle Pham lost to Alzbeta Houbova and Marina Hruba 6-2. 

Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin's doubles match was stopped at 5-5. 

Singles play was pivotal in Saturday's match as the Titans would be down three points, and rally to win the last four courts. 

Makiba fell to Resma 6-3, 6-0 on court number six, and Portalatin suffered her first loss of the season to Hruba 6-3, 6-2 on court number three. 

The Titans turned things around on court number two when Nuno claimed the first victory of the day 6-2, 6-3 over Dolakova. 

From there, the momentum was back in Fullerton's favor as Luxizi Meng took down Pribylova 6-3, 6-3.

Extending her streak on court number one was Big West Player of the Week, Genevieve Zeidan. Zeidan defeated Melounova 6-4, 6-4. 

The victory was finally secured when Emery came back to defeat Pits 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. 

Fullerton will take the courts again on Friday when they face off against San Diego State in San Diego, Calif. at 2 p.m.
