FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men and women's track and field team travels to UC Riverside on Friday and Saturday to compete in the second weekend of the 2015 Big West Championships at UC Riverside Track Facility.
Events are scheduled to get underway on Friday at noon with
Trevor Gorwin,
Emmanuel Martinez,
Steven Parsons, and
JaQuan Scott in the men's hammer competition. Action will continue throughout the day, encompassing both the track and field with running, jumping and throwing events. The day will close with the men and women's 10,000-meter run, Nisreen Rizk will step in for the Titan women and
Jose Penaloza will represent the Titan men in final event of the day.
Saturday's events will begin with
Catherine Craig, Jessica Flores,
Alexandria Kemp and
Amanda Mercado in the women's hammer throw at 10:00 a.m. The 2015 Big West Championships will conclude with the men and women's 4x400m relay at 5:09 p.m. and 5:19 p.m., respectively.
Alexandra Stewart and
Janaya Shorty will be back in action to defend their first place finish in the 4x100m relay from last season, and will be joined by
Alexis Stewart and Tyler Hardge this season.
Shorty will also compete in the 100m dash and will look to improve on her third place finish (24.28 seconds) from a season ago in the 200m dash. She will also take on the 4x400m relay while both Alexandra and
Alexis Stewart will join the sophomore in the 100m dash.
Morgan Thompson will join the Titan contingent in the 200m dash and the 400m run while mid-distance standout,
Tejera Dial, will represent the Titans in the 800m run.
Joshua Gordon,
Chaz Harmon,
Taylor Ros and
Nick Sole will take on both 4x100m and 4x400m relays for the Titan men on Saturday. Gordon and Harmon will also take part in both the 200m and 400m run, with Ros joining them in the 400m and Sole in the 200m.
The Titan jumping squad will look to put an exclamation point on their stellar season so far with a solid showing in the high jump, long jump and triple jump events.
Steven Williams and
Malik Johnson will carry the torch for the Titan men in the high jump while Frank and
Ty'Jalayah Robertson will represent the Titan women. Robertson will also join
Ifunanya Gwacham and in the women's triple jump event while
Brooke Hardge will join Laura Hamann in the long jump.
The men will send Ostrowski and Malik Walls to the long jump event while
Jonathan Tolentino will be the lone Titan in the men's triple jump.
The long distance runners for the Titans will look to add another top-five finish after
Daniel Ramirez finished fifth at the 2014 Big West Championships. Ramirez will be back competing in the 3,000m steeplechase with Tim Reed and the 5,000m run with Penaloza.
Notes: The women finished the 2014 Big West Championships in seventh place with 49 points while men placed eighth with 43.5 points…The Titans have broken six track and field records (outdoor and indoor) this season:
Taylor Frank in the indoor pentathlon (3,296 points) and the outdoor heptathlon (4,508 points),
Tejera Dial in the indoor 800m (2:13.67 sec.) and the outdoor 1,500m run (4:27.54 sec.),
Ty'Jalayah Robertson in the indoor high jump (5-feet-7.25-inches) and Jessica Flores in the outdoor hammer throw (59.88 meters).
