Harris Leads Titans to Victory at Nevada

RENO, Nev. – Senior guard Alex Harris scored a game-high 22 points as Cal State Fullerton produced its first road win of the year with a 65-55 victory over Nevada at the Lawlor Events Center on Saturday night.

In addition to his game-high 22 points, Harris contributed seven rebounds and a game-high five assists in the win, playing 37 minutes and shooting 8-of-17 from the floor.

With the victory, the Titans snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 4-7 on the year, winning their first road game of the season.

Nevada (2-7) lost its seventh straight game of the year.

Senior Moses Morgan chipped in 16 points for the Titans, knocking down three buckets from long distance, while Kennedy Esume scored a career-high nine points. Steve McClellan poured in eight points while grabbing seven rebounds – six on the offensive glass.

Fullerton shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the floor during the game, including a first-half clip of .483 which propelled the Titans to a 33-26 lead at the break.

The Titans jumped out to a double-digit, 14-2, advantage by the 15:05 mark of the first half as Morgan drained one of his three 3-pointers. Nevada cut that lead to 24-23 with 5:43 to play until the break, but Fullerton ended the first period on a 9-3 run to create some breathing room.

In addition to holding Nevada to a .370 shooting percentage (20-of-54), Cal State Fullerton held a 40-30 edge on the boards, including grabbing 15 offensive rebounds which led to 11 second-chance points.

D.J. Fenner scored 12 points for the Wolf Pack to go along with three assists and two three-pointers. Marqueze Coleman scored 11 points and added a team-high four assists while Michael Perez also chipped in 11 points.

After playing nine of its first 11 games away from Titan Gym, Cal State Fullerton returns home at 7 p.m., Thursday to begin a four-game homestand which starts with Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Notes: Cal State Fullerton snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory at Nevada, and also won its first road game of the year, now sporting a 1-6 record in road games…Nevada holds a 12-5 lead in the all-time series with Cal State Fullerton, but with the win, the Titans snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Wolf Pack winning their first game since a 97-72 victory on Feb. 10, 1994…it was Fullerton's first win in Reno since a 74-70 victory on Jan. 17, 1994…Alex Harris has scored in double figures on nine occasions this season, including five-straight games, while also eclipsing the 20-point mark four times…Harris has now led the team in scoring five times while leading the team in assists on eight occasions…the Titans won their first road game  since a 67-59 victory at Cal Poly on Feb. 20, 2014…Fullerton is 2-1 this season against opponents from the Mountain West Conference…the Titans'40 rebounds matched a season high, while Fullerton's nine turnovers set a season low…Fullerton's 10-point margin of victory was its largest of the season, and for the first time this year, the Titans never allowed the opponent to have the lead…Kennedy Esume scored a career-high nine points.
