California's Eric Ebert took a lob pass from Jacob Wilson and found the corner of the net with about 14 minutes to play Friday evening and that's all the Golden Bears needed for a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of the Stanford Nike Invitational.
On a cold and windy night in the Bay Area, Cal improved to 2-2-1 while the Titans fell to 2-2, dropping their second consecutive match by a 1-0 count.
Fullerton managed only four shots in the match as Cal's Justin Myers made 3 saves for the shutout. Brent Douglas took the loss for the Titans despite making 5 saves as Cal managed 15 shots.
The Titans play the host Cardinal on Sunday.
