Redlands, Calif – The Fullerton Titans split day two of the Inland Empire Classic. The Titans fell to Concordia Irvine on Saturday morning but capped off the weekend with an 11-5 victory over the Redland Bulldogs.
Titans 9, Concorda Irvine 13
The Titans opened day two of the Inland Empire Classic against Concordia Irvine where they fell 9-13. The Titans faced the Golden Eagles for the second time this season and fell short once again.
Ethan MacLeod scored the first goal of the game on a penalty shot in the first, but unfortunately, MacLeod's goal was the only Titans goal of the period. CUI tacked on four before time ran out in the first.
Trailing 4-1 at the start of the second,
Denes Dobi scored his first of the day.
Cade Zeilinger and
Samuel Branco each scored a goal in the second, but the Golden Eagles topped the Titans with five goals in the second quarter.
Fullerton trailed 3-9 after the first half and stepped up in the final half, but it was not enough to overcome Concordia. Dobi and MacLeod scored the only goals for Fullerton in the third quarter. In the fourth,
Gavin Shea,
Jason Honey, and
Jace Peterson scored consecutive unanswered goals, but ultimately came up short against the Golden Eagles.
Dobi and MacLeod led the Titans with a pair of goals each. Dobi recorded an assist while MacLeod had two along with two drawn exclusions and a steal.
Cy Hammerstrom and
Ethan Ivey shared time in the cage, recording a combined eight saves against CUI.
Titans 11, Redlands 5
Fullerton took down the Redlands Bulldogs 11-5 in the final game of the Inland Empire Classic. MacLeod, Dobi and
Jason Joseph led the Titans with a pair of goals each.
In the first quarter, MacLeod got the Titans started once again with a goal in the first 30 seconds before
Ethan Merritt scored his first of the day to put the Titans up by two. Redlands found their way onto the board, but
Ryan O'Donovan held Fullerton's lead at two with a goal from Zeilinger.
Fullerton held Redlands scoreless in the second period, scoring four unanswered goals before the half.
Marton Thuroczy got the period started with a goal from Merritt and less than 30 seconds later,
Carmelo Bangs shot one past the Bulldogs keeper. MacLeod and Branco capped the first half with a goal each, sending the Titans to halftime with a 7-1 lead.
Joseph scored the only Titans goal in the third. The Bulldogs tallied two, but Fullerton still led 8-3 at the end of the third quarter. Joseph recorded his second of the day in the fourth along with Dobi who tallied two in the final quarter. Redlands also scored two, but the Titans held on for an 11-5 win to close out the tournament.
Merritt recorded two assists and a steal against the Bulldogs. Ivey defended the cage and tallied 12 saves.
The Titans are back in action next Friday, Sep. 11 at home for the Fullerton Tournament.
