RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer defeated UC Riverside 1-0 Wednesday night to earn its four consecutive victory. With the win the Titans improve to 4-3-3 on the season.
Jose de la Torre scored the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. De la Torre perfectly curled the ball over the defensive wall and past the goalkeeper on the right side of goal to give Fullerton a 1-0 lead.
The Titans defense held on for the remainder of the game even while facing a barrage of shots from UC Riverside. Center back Kaj Schroder had an unbelievable stop on the goal line in the 87th minute to prevent a game-tying goal.
Fullerton was out-shot 15-6 in the game, however goalkeeper Max Leviton was a brick wall in net, recording a season-high eight saves to earn his first clean sheet of the year and lead the Titans to their second straight shutout victory.
It was another physical battle between the two sides, with a combined 19 fouls and nine yellow cards.
The Titans carry their four-game winning streak into Big West play beginning Saturday night at UC Irvine. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
