Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer dropped its season opener to No. 19 Oregon State Sunday night at Titan Stadium by a final score of 3-0. 

It was a tale of two halves for the Titans. The first 45 minutes were largely controlled by Fullerton while creating multiple quality chances. Fullerton had 53 percent of possession while out shooting Oregon State 7-3 in the first half. 

Ulises Grado had a good look at goal after a string of passes from Jose de la Torre and Alex Lugo in the 11th minute of action. De la Torre started the scoring opportunity with a great ball down the Titans left side of the field to Lugo who put the ball into the 18-yard box for Grado. Grado's shot sailed just over the crossbar, missing an early opportunity to take the lead. 

Fullerton had another great opportunity in the 39th minute as freshman Gianluca D'Amato had a breakaway with a defender on his back. D'Amato just missed touching the ball over the goalkeeper's outstretched hand. Aiden Bengard made a great pass to D'Amato to creat the chance after blocking a shot on the opposite end of the field. 

Oregon State controlled the second half from start to finish, recording 20 shots after just three in the first half. After knocking on the door several times, the Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute after a handball by the Titans inside the box led to a penalty kick. The Beavers added to their lead in the 84th minute and 89th minute to take a commanding 3-0 advantage. 

Fullerton looks to respond Thursday night at Titan Stadium as it hosts Oral Roberts at 7:00 p.m.
