Bengard's Late Equalizer Earns Titans 2-2 Draw Against Oral Roberts

FULLERTON, Calif. – Aiden Bengard scored an equalizer in the 85th minute of play to earn the Titans a 2-2 draw against Oral Roberts Thursday night at Titan Stadium. With the draw the Titans are now 0-1-1 on the year.

Fullerton took an early 1-0 lead, scoring on a penalty kick from Fernando Valenzuela in the 11th minute. The Titans were awarded a PK after an Oral Roberts handball inside the box.

The Titans lead didn't last long as Oral Roberts came back to tie the game at 1-1 just over a minute later.

The Titans controlled much of the second half, but the scoreboard failed to reflect their momentum and dominance on the pitch.

Fullerton had several opportunities to take the lead, none better than back-to-back shots on goal by Jose de la Torre and Valenzuela in the 64th minute.

De la Torre had his initial shot stopped by a diving goalkeeper before Valenzuela controlled the rebound and fired another shot on target, but a slight deflection sent the ball off the post.

The game quickly changed on the subsequent corner kick. After a ball in the box bounced back toward the Titans' last defender, a deflection left an Oral Roberts attacker with a two-on-one opportunity, resulting in the Golden Eagles finding the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead.

Fullerton didn't hang its heads, quickly going back to work on the offensive end. The Titans tallied a total of 27 shots in the game with 19 of them coming in the second half.

The equalizer finally came in the 85th minute off a corner kick from Ulises Grado that Bengard headed into the bottom right corner of the net to tie the game at 2-2.

The match didn't end without late drama. The Titans kept pushing for the go-ahead goal and appeared to have forced another handball inside the box. However, following a lengthy review after time had expired, no penalty kick was awarded.

The Titans hit the road next week for their first roadtrip of the season beginning Monday night at Seattle followed by a matchup against No. 11 Washington Thursday night.
