Titans Drop Midweek Game to No. 1 UCLA

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton battled tough but fell short to No. 1 UCLA by a final score of 7-3 Tuesday night at Goodwin Field. With the loss the Titans drop to 15-16 on the year.

The Titans fell behind early, giving up one run in the top of the first inning on a solo home run. UCLA extended its lead to 2-0 in the second inning after scoring on a throwing error by the Titans.

Fullerton responded in the home half of the second inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Titans put together a rally with two outs. Back-to-back singles by Hunter Meyer and Cade O'Hara put runners on the corners before Cam Burdick cleared the bases with a two-run double.

With Burdick at second, Nick Miller singled through the left side of the infield to give the Titans a 3-2 advantage.

UCLA scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead.

The two teams went scoreless over the next four innings until UCLA hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to extend its lead to 7-3.

The Titans used a total of seven pitchers Tuesday night with Nick Santivanez getting the start and giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Dylan Nieto, Brady Dockan, Ryan Seo and Chris Hernandez all threw scoreless outings.

Fullerton is back in Big West play this weekend at Blair Field against rival Long Beach State. The three-game series is set to begin Friday night at 6:05 p.m.
