Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Titans Edged by Aggies in Water Polo on Senior Day

FULLERTON, Calif. -  For three quarters the Titans women's water polo team hung tough with the No. 16 UC Davies, but a strong fourth quarter from the Aggies saw them pull away in a 12-6 win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at the Titans Aquatic Center.

The Titans fell to 17-13 overall and 1-5 in Big West Play.  

The Titans had unique goal scorers as Destiny Hernandez, Mia Hatch, Mia Solorzano, Emme Doube-MacLeod, Abby Lockman, and Sofia Moschetti dented the twine.  Lotte Boxsem led the team with three assists.  Renske Boxsem had a solid day inside the cage making eight saves including a 5-meter penalty stop.  

The Aggies came out strong to start the game jumping to an early 5-0 lead over the Titans.  The Titans got one goal back from Abby Lockman ot make it 5-1 and another from Destiny Hernandez before the quarter ended to make it 5-2 after one.



The Titans defense held strong for their second quarter as they kept the Aggies off the board.  Mia Solorzano made it a 5-3 game after scoring on a powerplay.



Mia Hatch scored with 4 seconds left in the first half to make it a 5-4 game at halftime.



UC Davis scored on their first posseson in the third quarter to make it 6-4.  Sofia Moschetti eventually got a goal back for the Titans with 1:32 left in the quarter to cut the lead to 6-5.



The Aggies scored immediately following Moschetti's goal and took a 7-5 lead into the fourth and final frame. 

UC Davis scored twice to start the fourth quarter once via a penalty.  Renske Boxsem made one penalty save to keep the TItans in the game and Emme Doube-MacLeod scored to cut the score to 9-6.



However the Titans offense wouldn't crack the Aggies defense again.  Towards the final 90 seconds of play, the Titans called their final timeout to allow all the seniors into the water for one final swim in the Titans Aquatic Center. Neida Torres made her return to action since the second weekend of the season.  Including Torres, Destiny Hernandez, Delaney Latham, Kendal Santos, Mikka Von Scherr, Isabella Schulze, and Stephanie Hidalgo all got one last curtain call in the pool. 

The Titans will close out the regular season on Friday against the University of Hawai'i.  The Titans are basically locked into the seventh seed for the following weekend's Big West Championship.
