Fullerton Dominates MPSF Championships with Historic Team Performances

Titans men’s team brings home first ever MPSF indoor title and women’s team earn a program-best bronze.

Reno, Nev. – The Cal State Fullerton indoor track and field teams made their mark at the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships. The men's team brought home the program's first ever gold with 191 points. The women's team earned bronze with 81 points, their highest finish in program history.  The Titans broke six school records during their time at the MPSF Conference championships.
 
Fullerton tallied 21 total podium finishes over the two-day championship meet on Sunday and Monday. The men's team nabbed 15 medals and the women logged six. Overall, Fullerton was found at the top of the podium 12 times. CSF earned five silver and four bronze medals at the championships.  
 
On Sunday, both teams competed in the 60m dash preliminary rounds. Abel Jordan led the men's 60m dash with his 6.65 first place time. Ian Dossman, Maleik Pabon and Dominic Gates also placed in the top eight, sending them to the finals on Monday. Jordan set a new personal best in the finals with a first-place time of 6.57. Dossman was right behind with a time of 6.70. Gates finished in fifth while Pabon rounded out the group of athletes. On the women's side, Brooklyn Davis qualified for Monday's round with a fourth-place finish. Davis went on to win gold with her new personal best time of 7.36 in the 60m dash.  
 
In the 60m hurdles events, Bella Turner qualified for Monday's finals with a personal best time of 8.57. In the finals, Turner beat her record again and placed third with an 8.56 mark. The men's event did not have a preliminary round. Jordan logged a 7.71, first place finish. Vincent Carnegie, Keith Orona, and Solomon Gater finished in sixth, seventh and eighth in the men's 60m hurdles.
 
The Titans topped both the men's and women's 200m events on Sunday. Arionn Livingston and Dossman took home the gold in both events. Davis and Nancy Dematte finished in the top 10 with Livingston who set a new personal best time of 23.90.  Dossman, along with Isaiah Emerson, Parker Harrison, Rider Cooper and Gates each placed in the top 10 of the 200m dash. Dossman's first place time of 20.54 is a new personal best as well as a new school record.
 
Titans distance runners competed in the distance medley relays as well as the men's 5000m run. Nathaniel Avila was the first ever Titan to compete in the 5000m event and ran a 15:52.80 mark in the 5000m. The women's DMR team ran a fifth place, 11:50.58 time while the men finished sixth with a time of 10:15.90.  
 
In Sunday's field events, Orona had the highest finish, earning the gold in the men's pole vault with his 4.30m mark. Rahsaan Dozier and Sebastian Ikolo made their way onto the podium in the men's long jump. Ikolo logged a 7.31m jump finishing in second while Dozier finished in third with a 7.29m jump. Hawkin Miller recorded a new personal-best 19.00m weight throw that broke the previous school record of 18.26m. Miller's performance on Sunday put him in third place.
 
Jocelyn Alexander and Alexa Sheldon each recorded a new personal best in the women's weight throw. Alexander logged a 15.69m mark and Sheldon had a 15.91m mark. Sydney Roquebrun was the only other female to compete on the field side on Sunday. Roquebrun logged a 5.56 long jump.
 
On Monday, Livingston kicked off the day with a first-place finish in the women's 400m dash. Her 53.55 mark was a new personal best. Alyssa Heinlein and Nancy Dematte were alongside Livingston in the top 10. Cooper led the Titans in the men's event with a second place, 47.01 finish. Harrison, Emerson and Goode also competed and finished in fifth, sixth and seventh.
 
Both 4x400m relay teams finished in first on Monday. Briyanna Word, Livingston, Heinlein and Dematte logged a 3:37.87 time, setting a new school record. Harrison, Pabon, Cooper and Emerson also broke the school record and finished with a time of 3:09.37 in the men's 4x400m relay.
 
Luke Hitchcock nabbed another gold medal for the Titans with his 1:51.30 performance in the men's 800m run. Kofi Rossi also ran with Hitchcock and finished in seventh. On the women's side, Natalyn Membreno finished in fourth while Ashlynn Viramontes was two slots behind with a time of 2:12.93. Fiona Holloway rounded out the event.
 
The Titans distance runners finished out the day with impressive performances in the 3000m events. Isabella Smith logged a 10:02.76 mark and Makena Oliva finished with a time of 10:21.53. On the men's side, Avila finished with a time of 8:54.85 and Noah Chairez ran a 9:06.22 3000m run.
 
Miller set a new personal best in the men's shot put with his 18.09m throw on Monday. Miller cashed in for gold while fellow Titans, Brayden Bitter and Hagop Marmarian finished in fourth and eighth. On the women's side, Alexander logged a 13.24m throw and Sheldon recorded a 13.64m mark in the shot put.
 
The Titans continued to score gold as Ikolo set a new school record, recording a 2.14m, first place, high jump. Dozier also competed in the event and had a 1.90m mark.
 
Camren Smith rounded out the day with a second place, 14.92m triple jump. Dozier logged a 14.42m mark in the men's triple jump.
 
The Titans impressed in the multis as Olivia Walker set a new school record with 3773 points in the women's pentathlon. Walker finished in third whole Mayalee Osola finished in fifth and Emily Johnson tallied 3432 points. Orona nabbed a second place finish in the men's heptathlon with 5440 points. Gater was right behind with 3770 point, finishing in fifth.
 
The Titans will finish their indoor season at the NCAA Championships in Fayatteville, Ark. on March 13 and 14.
