Henderson, Nev. – The Cal State Fullerton Titans took down the UC Davis Aggies in a quarterfinal battle at Lee's Family Forum on Thursday night. Fullerton now advances to face Hawai'i in the semifinals after taking down UC Davis by a score of 82-70.
Three different Titans recorded double-doubles against the Aggies.
Joshua Ward led with 24 points and 10 rebounds,
Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds while
Bryce Cofield posted 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Landon Seaman and
KJ Garris also joined the double-digit club in points.
Both the Titans and Aggies got off to a slow start, but Fullerton had the advantage, taking a 5-0 lead to start. The Aggies scored a bucket before over four minutes went by and they took the lead at 6-5. The Aggies and Titans went on to trade leads six different times in the first half. Fullerton went on their longest scoring run of the night, tallying nine points to head into half time with a 38-26 lead.
Seaman led the team with 10 points, four rebounds, and a steal in the first frame. Fullerton shot a 33% field goal percentage, 23% from beyond the three-point line and 81% at the charity stripe. The Titans forced the Aggies to eight turnovers, tallying 18 points.
In the second half, Fullerton continued to add onto their lead, taking a 21-point lead at the 13:38 mark. The Aggies started to make a comeback before CSF posted nine straight points, building back up to a 20-point lead and eventually getting back to that 21-point mark with just over five minutes remaining. UC Davis kept the Titans on their toes, bringing them within six points with two minutes to go, but Fullerton continued to find the net, finishing the game with a 82-70, 12-point lead.
Ward led the second half with 16 points. He also tallied five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Fullerton shot a 39% field goal percentage in the second half, for an overall 33% shooting percentage.
The Titans stay alive, advancing to the semifinals to face Hawai'i on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Lee's Family Forum in Henderson, Nev.
