REDLANDS, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans walloped the Occidental Tigers and the University of La Verne on Friday on Day One of the Och Tamale Invitational hosted by the University of Redlands.
The Titans won their first game against Occidental 24-5 and their second game against La Verne 23-2.
The 47 goals scored was 32% of their total goals scored this season. Â
Cal State Fullerton 24, Occidental 5
The Titans matched a women's water polo program record of goals scored in a game with 24 goals against the Tigers.Â
The Titans had 11 unique goal scorers in the first game. Â
Mia Hatch led the team with 4 goals,
Delaney Latham,
Emme Doube-MacLeod, and
Lotte Boxsem scored three goals. Â
Hannah Reekstin and
Sofia Moschetti both scored two goals. Â
Destiny Hernandez,
Kendal Santos,
Mia Solorzano, and
Abby Lockman scored a goal a piece.
Alexandra Ortiz got the start and the win after making three saves in the first two quarters. Â
Isabella Walker played the last two quarters and had a stellar half making 11 saves.
The Titans jumped to an early 9-2 lead over the Tigers in the first. Â Heading into halftime, the Titans led 16-3.
The Titans scored three goals in the third quarter to take a 19-3 lead. Â In the final quarter, the Titans outscored the Tigers 5-to-2.
Cal State Fullerton 23, University of La Verne 2
In the Titans second game of the day, they had 13 unique goal scorers. Â
Gabrielle Zaretskiy,
Hannah Reekstin, and
Sofia Moschetti all had hat tricks. Â
Destiny Hernandez,
Emme Doube-MacLeod, and
Isabella Schulze scored twice. Â
Kendal Santos,
Mia Solorzano,
Kenzie Searle, Aby Lockman,
Lotte Boxsem, and
Stephanie Hidalgo all had one goal each.
Alexandra Ortiz got the start and played the first two quarters and made one save. Â
Isabella Walker played the final two quarters and made four saves.
The Titans scored the first 11 goals of the game and the Leopards finally scored with 2:01 left in the second quarter. Â The Titans led 13-1 heading into halftime.
The Titans outscored La Verne 3-0 in the third quarter and led 16-1 after three quarters.
In the final frame, the Titans outscored La Verne 7-to-1.
The Titans will take on Fresno Pacific tomorrow at 12:30 before finishing out the weekend against the hosts, the University of Redlands at 5:00 p.m.
