Titans Fall in Final Conference Matchup in Hawaii

HONOLULU, HI. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team dropped a road game to the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine 67-49 on the road at the Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday night.

The Titans fell to 16-12 overall for the season and 12-6 in conference play.  In what very well could be a future quarterfinal match up between the two sides, as Hawaii moved into a 4th place tie with the Titans.  

The Titans were in a close battle with the Rainbow Wahine in the first quarter but the Rainbow Wahine pulled ahead big in the second and third quarters. 

Hawaii shot 49% from the floor compared to the Titans 27%.  Hawaii made 9 three pointers while the Titans made just 4 three pointers.  The Titans forced 19 turnovers and got 21 points off them.  Hawaii won the battle of the boards, 44-to-35.  The Titans had two in double figures as Cristina Jones had 10 points and Talia Maxwell had 10 points.  

Hawaii jumped to an early 7-2 lead over the Titans midway through the first quarter.  The Titans went on a 6-0 scoring run to take the lead before Hawaii made a 3-pointer to take a 10-8 lead into the second quarter.



The Rainbow Wahine outscored the Titans 23-to-14 in the second quarter.  The Rainbow Wahine outscored the Titans 23-to-14 in the second quarter. Madelynn Muniz made two three pointers in the quarter including one to keep it an 8-point deficit with 1:17 left in the half.  However, Hawaii made a late three pointer in the quarter to take a 33-22 lead into halftime.



The Rainbow Wahine outscored the Titans 20-to-11 in the third quarter.Hawaii stretched their lead to 22 points during the quarter and led 53-33 heading into the final frame. 

The Titans outscored Hawaii in the final quarter 16-to-14.  Hawaii led by 24 with 8:45 left in regulation.  The Titans cut the lead down to 16 points midway through the 4th quarter to make it a 59-43 game.  However, that's as close as the score would get as the Rainbow Wahine maintained an 18 point lead by the end of the game.

The Titans head to 1st place UC San Diego on Thursday for their final away game of the season.  Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
