Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Titans Defeat Chapman before Falling to No. 9 LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team split the day on Saturday at the Burns Aquatic Center after defeating Chapman University 12-9 before falling to hosts No. 9 LMU 13-10. 

The Titans moved to 11-5 overall for the season.

The Titans defeated Chapman University 12-9 in the first game of the day at LMU.  

Kenzie Searle led the offense against the Panthers with a hat trick in the first game of the day.  Destiny Hernandez and Sofia Moschetti picked up two goals. While Mia Hatch, Mikka Von Scherr, Abby Lockman, Hannah Reeiksin, and Lotte Boxsem also dented the wine.  

The Titans fell behind early 2-0 before three straight unanswered goals from Reekstin, Lockman, and Hernandez gave the Titans the lead 3-2 lead after one.

In the second quarter, Mikke Von Scherr and Destiny Hernandez both scored as the Panthers scored just one to give the Titans a 5-3 lead at halfitme.

The Titans outscored Chapman 5-to-1 in the third quarter as Lotte Boxsem, Kenzie Searle (x2), Mia Hatch, and Sofia Moschetti found the back of the net.  The Titans led 10-4 after three quarters.

In the final frame, Sofia Moschetti scored early to keep it at 11-5.  Chapman outscored the Titans 4-to-1 over the final 5 minutes to make it a three goal win at the end.

The Titans hung tough with the No. 9 LMU Lions in their second game of the day for most of the first half.  After a big third quarter from the Lions, the Titans attempted a late rally.

The Titans took an early lead in the first quarter after Gabrielle Zaretskiy and Destiny Hernandez scored to make it a 2-1 game. LMU scored the final two goals of the quarter to take a 3-2 lead after one.

Lotte Boxsem scored to start the second quarter to tie the game up.  LMU then scored twice before Hannah Reekstin cut it a 5-4 game with 4:01 left in the quarter.  The Lions scored the next two goals to take a 7-4 lead into halftime.

LMU scored the first three goals in the third quarter to open up a 10-5 lead.  Lotte Boxsem scored her goal of the game to make it 10-6 and Emme Doube-MacLeod scored later in the quarter to cut the lead to 11-to-7.

The Titans outscored the Lions 3-2 in the final frame.  Boxsem got her hat trick to start the period.  The Lions got two more goals to open up a 5 goal lead with 4:15 left at 13-8.  Lotte Boxsem scored her fourth goal to make it 13-9 at 2:30 and Sofia Moschetti scored the final goal of the game before the final whistle to make it a 13-10 game.

The Titans will open up Big West play officially next weekend at home hosting CSUN and UC San Diego.  The first match on Friday against CSUN starts at 7:00 p.m at the Titans Aquatic Center.
