FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer head coach George Kuntz announced his retirement Friday morning following 13 years and 12 seasons leading the Titans.

"I am very appreciative of all that George Kuntz has done for our men's soccer program," said Director of Athletics Shondell Reed. "Leading this program to three NCAA Tournament appearances and three Big West Tournament Championships will always be part of his legacy at Cal State Fullerton. I want to thank coach Kuntz for his dedication and service to this university and wish him all the best in retirement."

In 12 seasons at Cal State Fullerton, Kuntz had a 105-89-52 overall record and led the Titans to three Big West Tournament Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances (2014, 2015, 2017).

Kuntz also led the Titans to a Big West regular season championship in 2023 while also earning Big West Coach of the Year honors. That year the Titans earned Big West Offensive, Midfielder, Defensive and Goalkeeper of the Year.

During Kuntz's tenure, 57 players earned All-Big West honors, while eight student-athletes received individual Big West awards. Additionally, Eight Titans earned All-Far West Region recognition.

"It has truly been a pleasure to be the head coach of this program," Kuntz said. "I thoroughly enjoyed spending the last 13 years of my career here and I'm proud of all the things we were able to accomplish from Big West titles to NCAA appearances. However, the results that matter most to me are not found in the record book but in the young men who have come through this program and left as graduates, leaders and individuals better prepared for life beyond the game.

"I want to thank every student-athlete, assistant coach and staff member for their countless hours devoted to this program," Kuntz said. "I will always be proud to be a Titan, and I look forward to cheering on the program as it begins its next chapter."

Kuntz's coaching career spans back to 1988 when he was the head coach of men's and women's soccer at Cal Lutheran. Following five seasons at Cal Lutheran, Kuntz became the head coach of the women's program at Pepperdine where he went 23-11-2 in two years.

Kuntz took over as head coach at UC Irvine in 1995, beginning a 19-season tenure with the Anteaters. During his time at UCI, he led the program to four Big West Tournament championships (2008, 2009, 2011, 2013) and three regular-season titles (2008, 2010, 2011). Kuntz has earned Big West Coach of the Year honors four times between his tenures at UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton (2002, 2006, 2008, 2023).

Over his 38-year coaching career, Kuntz has compiled a 424-296-118 record, placing him among the winningest coaches in NCAA men's soccer history.

A national search for a new head coach at Cal State Fullerton will begin immediately.
