Rivera's Goal Leads Titans over Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play after defeating Sacramento State 1-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon at Hornet Field.

The Titans improved to 8-2-5 overall and 5-0-2 in conference play to remain atop of the standings.

After scoring her first career goal on Wednesday in the Titans 2-1 win over Long Beach State, Rivera scored the lone goal of the game for her second straight game with a goal.

After a 0-0 first half, the Titans came out attacking strong to start the second half.  The Titans thought they scored their first goal of the game in the 48th minute after Rivera kept a ball in play on the endline after taking it away from the defender and passing it Cassie Villanueva.  Villanueva' shot was saved by Jaidyn Williams kept the ball in play and passed it to Sail Bozinovic who scored from the top of the box.  However, after a lengthy VAR review, they disallowed the goal after saying Rivera fouled the Hornet defender at the start of the play.

Two minutes later, the Titans pressure was finally rewarded with a goal.  Kaylin Raibon sent a long ball on a freekick up the field up to Cassie Villanueva.  Villanueva dribbled to the right side of the box and sent a cross that Jenna Rivera got to and hit the shot off the bottom of the crossbar into the goal to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.  Villanueva is up to 22 points  for the season after picking up her eighth assist of the year and has a goal contribution in all but two games she has played.

The Titans continued to press for a second goal after that as they outshot the Hornets 13-to-5 in the second half and 19-to-8 for the game. The Titans also had 13 corner kicks for the game.

Allison Craycroft earned her sixth shutout of the season after making two saves for the game. Craycroft is now tied for ninth in program history with six shutouts in a single season.

The Titans will play three of their final four games at home.  They host Cal State Bakersfield on Wednesday night.  Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
