Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Titans Fall to UC Santa Barbara, 2-1

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer lost to UC Santa Barbara Saturday night at Titan Stadium by a final score of 2-1. With the loss the Titans drop to 4-8-3 on the year and 0-4 in Big West play.

The Titans fell behind early in the match, giving up a goal in the 17th minute of play to UCSB's Steinar Bjornsson. A few minutes later, Bjornsson scored his second goal of the match to extend Santa Barbara's lead to 2-0.

Asger Hemmer did a great job in net keeping the Titans in the game. The goalkeeper recorded four saves in the first half and six in the match.

Fullerton was on its heels the entire first half, giving up 16 shots while recording just two shots of its own. Both of the Titans shots in the first half came from Jose de la Torre from outside the 18-yard box.

The Titans came out of the locker room at halftime with much more energy, playing with possession in the final third consistently and creating quality chances.

Hughie Eaton got the Titans on the board in the 67th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. After a great back-heel pass from Fernando Valenzuela, Eaton buried a screamer in the top right corner of the net. Julian Borja also assisted on the goal.

The Titans kept pressing, looking to find an equalizer but came up empty. After recording just two shots in the first half, Fullerton got off 12 shots in the second but were still out-shot 25-14.

Fullerton is on the road Wednesday night for a nonconference matchup against Gonzaga before returning home Saturday for senior night against CSU Bakersfield.
