Titans Surrender Late Lead in 3-3 Draw at Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. – Cal State Fullerton and Gonzaga finished in a 3-3 draw Wednesday night at Luger Field. With the draw the Titans are now 4-8-4 on the year.

The Titans led 3-1 with five and half minutes left to play but surrendered a goal in the 85th minute and the game-tying goal in the 88th minute to end the game in a 3-3 draw.

After a relatively slow first half that was scoreless, the second half saw much more action with a total of six goals.

Gianluca D'Amato got the scoring started in the 53rd minute for his first collegiate goal. D'Amata found himself all alone in the box after a freekick from Jose de la Torre.

Gonzaga would come back to tie the game at 1-1 in the 68th minute on a penalty kick after Fullerton was called for a foul inside the box.

The Titans had an answer in the 77th minute to take a 2-1 advantage. D'Amato once again scored off a freekick to record a brace. Benjamin Bjorkman and Aidan Brothers assisted on the goal.

It appeared as though the Titans put the game away in the 82nd minute after Toronto native Fitz Williams found fellow Toronto native Josiah Green on a cross to put the Titans ahead 3-1.

After giving up a goal at the 84:33 mark that cut the lead to 3-2, the Titans were issued a straight red card at 85:40 to leave the team down a man for the remainder of the game. The red card was not reviewed by the head referee. Fullerton would then allow the game tying goal in the 88th minute.

The Titans were outshot 26-12 in the game while both teams recorded a total of eight shots on goal. Asger Hemmer recorded six saves in net.

Fullerton is back at home Saturday night for a Big West Conference matchup against CSU Bakersfield. The Titans will honor five seniors prior to Saturday's game.
