FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer fell to California Baptist at Titan Stadium Wednesday night by a final score of 3-1. With the loss the Titans drop to 4-7-3 on the year.
The Titans fell behind early, giving up a goal in the eighth minute of play to go down 1-0. It was an unfortunate bounce that led to the goal for CBU. The initial shot took a deflection off a Titan defender which popped it up in the air and gave the ball enough back spin to drop in behind the goalkeeper.
CBU extended its lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute. A great clearance off a Titan corner kick led to a CBU attacker being one-on-one in the attacking third.
Fullerton changed the momentum of the game in the second half, becoming much more of the aggressor as it looked to get back in the game. The Titans fired 17 shots in the second 45 minutes compared to just three in the first half.
The Titans had several opportunities to get on the board including shots from Sebastian Carbajal in the 60th minute that was saved and Fitz Williams in the 70th that just missed the goal.
Fullerton finally broke through in the 84th minute on a penalty kick that Adan Alvarado scored to cut the deficit to 2-1. Alvarado had another good look at goal to tie the game in the 85th minute but was saved by the CBU goalkeeper.
The Lancers all but put the game away in the 86th minute, taking a 3-1 lead on a penalty kick scored by Blake D'Agostino.
The Titans are back to Big West play this Saturday in a matchup with UC Santa Barbara at Titan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
