Titans Split Day Against CSUMB and SDSU

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo split the second day at the Titan Invitational with a comeback win over Cal State Monterey Bay before falling in their final against No. 21 San Diego State.  

CAL STATE FULLERTON 11, CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY 9
In the first game of the afternoon, the Titans had to overcome a four goal difference after being down 7-3 to earn the comeback win over the Otters. After going down 7-3 with 6:02 in the third quarter.  The Titans outscored the Otters 8-to-4 for the final 14 minutes.

Emme Doube-MacLeod led the Titans with five goals.  Destiny Hernandez scored three goals.  Lotte Boxsem had 4 points for the game after scoring once and assisting on three goals.  Neida Torres and Mia Solorzano also scored for the Titans. Alexandra Ortiz earned the start and made three saves.  Renske Boxsem played the final half and made four save and allowed just two goals.

Emme Doube-MacLeod opened the scoring to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead.  The Otters scored twice before Doube-MacLeod scored her second goal of the game to tie the game at 2-2.  CSUMB scored right before the quarter ended to take a 3-2 lead over the Titans.



In the second quarter, the Otters scored first before Destiny Hernandez dented the twine on a power play to make it a 4-3 game. 



The Otters led 6-3 heading into the halftime break.   CSUMB also scored the first goal of the third quarter before the Titans offense caught fire.  Neida Torres started the scoring run and Destiny Hernandez made it 7-5 on a powerplay.

Emme Doube-MacLeod scored on back-to-back attempts to make it a 7-7 game.

Mia Solarzano continued the 5-0 scoring run to give the Titans an 8-7 lead.  However, CSUMB tied the game at 8-8 to send the game into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Lotte Boxsem opened the scoring to give the Titans a 9-8 lead.  Emma Sosa tied the game for CSUMB on a 5-meter penalty to make it 9-9.

CAL STATE FULLERTON 8, No. 21 SAN DIEGO STATE 19
The Titans played their toughest opponent in the final match of the weekend taking on the No. 21 San Diego State Aztecs.  The Aztecs jumped to an early lead and never looked back in the 19-8 win over the Titans.

Sofia Moschetti scored the first goal of the game to give the Titans a very early 1-0 lead.



The Aztecs then finished the first quarter on a 6-1 scoring run.  Lotte Boxsem scored the second goal for the Titans who fell behind 6-2 after one quarter.



Destiny Hernandez scored a 5-meter penalty and Emme Doube-MacLeod scored on a powerplay early in the second quarter to make it a 7-4 game.



The Aztecs went ahead 10-4 before the Titans got back-to-back goals from Mia Hatch and Abby Lockman to cut the lead down to 10-6. However, the Aztecs scored a goal with six seconds left to take an 11-6 lead into halftime.



The Aztecs outscored the Titans 5-to-1 in the third quarter with Elise Bliss denting the twine for the Titans in the period.



Sofia Moschetti scored the lone goal for the Titans in the final period of play.



The Titans will remain at home next weekend when they host Whittier College and Azusa Pacific on Friday.
