Women's Water Polo Wins Two Close Games to Start Season

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team opened the 2026 season with two narrow wins over Biola and Claremont-Mudd Scripps on Friday at the Titan Invitational.

The Titans won each game by one score over their opponent.Ā  They defeated Biola 6-5 to open the season and later came back to defeat Claremont-Mudd Scripps 13-12 in the evening.Ā 

CAL STATE FULLERTON 6, BIOLA 5
In the Titan's first game of the 2026 season, the Titans opened up a three goal lead over the Biola Eagles but needed to hold on to claim the victory after a late run by Biola.

Delaney Latham led the Titans in scoring with two goals while Emme Doube-Macleod contributed with three assists. Ā Kenzie Searle, Jade Lonzo, Chandler Burrell, and Lotte Boxsem also scored for the Titans in the game.Ā The freshman Renske Boxsem earned the win after making five saves in goal for the Titans in her first career start.

It took a while for both teams to find their offensive footing in the first quarter. Ā Lotte Boxsem scored the first goal for the Titans with 5:10 left and Chandler Burrell also scored with 4:45 in the first to make it a 2-0 game.



The Eagles came back to tie the game at 2-2 before the first quarter came to a close.

Jade Lonzo scored the only goal of the second quarter as the Titans led 3-2 at halftime.



The Titans took a three goal lead midway through the third quarter as Kenzie Searle converted on a 5-meter penalty and Delaney Latham also scored her first goal of the game.



The Eagles got one back before the third quarter ended to make it a 5-3 game. Ā Delaney Latham opened the scoring for the Titans in the fourth quarter to give Fullerton a 6-3 lead. Ā 

Biola scored twice more in the fourth quarter including a penalty goal to make it a one goal game with 2:21 left. Ā However, the Titans stout defense were able to see out the rest of the game to preserve the win.

CAL STATE FULLERTON 13, CLAREMONT-MUDD SCRIPPS 12
After some offensive struggles in the first game of the day, the Titans scored 13 goals in the win over the Athenas in the night cap.

The Titans had two players with four goals as Emme Doube-MacLeod scored four goals as well as redshirt freshman Hannah Reekstin. Ā Sofia Moschetti scored twice and Neida Torres, Kenzie Searle, Jade Lonzo also dented the twine once.Ā Ā Renske Boxsem made three saves in the win over CMS.

The Titans struggled offensively in the first quarter as CMS led 3-1 after a goal by Hannah Reekstin.

The Titans outscored the Athenas 5-to-3 in the second quarter. Ā Emme Doube-MacLeod and Jade Lonzo scored to start the second quarter to tie the game at 3-all. Ā CMS added two goals to regain a 5-3 lead. Ā However, the Titans outscored Athenas 3-to-1 over the final four minutes to make it a 6-6 lead at halftime.





Both teams traded goals twice in the third quarter before Emme Doube-MacLeod scored with :28 seconds left to give the Titans a 9-8 lead.



After an Doube-MacLoed goal to start the third quarter, CMS eventually tied the game up at 6-6, 7-7, and 8-8. Ā After Emme made it an 10-8 game to start the fourth quarter, CMS scored twice to tie the game at 10-all. Ā Sofia Moschetti scored twice late to give the Titans a 12-11 lead before Hannah Reekstin scored her fourth goal of the night with 2:54 left to play.





CMS got a lateĀ consolation goal with Ā :08 left on the clock but it was enough for the Titans to ride the game out.

The Titans will host Cal State Monterey Bay and San Diego State tomorrow at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.. Ā
