Fullerton Opens CBU Tournament with Wins Over Austin College and Biola

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's water polo opens day one of the CBU Tournament with wins over Austin College and Biola, Friday afternoon at the Lancer Aquatic Center. The Titans improve to 9-7 on the year and are on a five-game winning streak.

Fullerton dominated its opening game of the CBU Tournament against Austin College, winning by a final score of 19-6 Friday afternoon. The Titans kicked off the game with an explosive first period, scoring seven goals and gaining an early lead that the Roos could not overcome.

Francesco Schiaffino was a standout for Cal State Fullerton, scoring three goals, two of which came in rapid succession during the first quarter. Luke Vargas, Jacob Hatch, and Marton Thuroczy also made their mark in the opening period, setting the tone for the Titans' offensive dominance.

The Titans defense stood tall, not allowing a goal in the entire first half of action. Fullerton didn't allow a goal until the 3:41 mark of the third quarter while scoring 14 unanswered goals.

The Titans showcased their offensive prowess, particularly during the second period, where they netted six goals to take a commanding lead.

Andrew Barnuevo had a strong performance for Fullerton, scoring four goals while leading his team in the decisive moments of the game. His contributions were crucial in maintaining the Titans' momentum, especially as they surged ahead in the second quarter.

The Titans were particularly effective in the second quarter, scoring multiple goals in quick succession that put them ahead 9-3 at the half. The Eagles fought back in the third and fourth periods, but it wasn't enough to counter Fullerton's early advantage.

Ethan Ivey had an impressive game in goal for the Titans, recording seven saves. 

The Titans are back in the pool at the Lancer Aquatic Center Saturday against Concordia at 12:40 p.m. and Occidental at 4:45 p.m.
