RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell in four sets to New Mexico (25-27, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23) on Friday afternoon at the Van Dyne Gym. The Titans head into the tournament's final day on Saturday with a 4-4 record.Â
Senior middle blocker
Ketesia Hall and junior setter
Kahea Carvalho each recorded double-doubles in the close-fought battle. Hall led the Titans with 17 kills and 13 digs, adding two assists and service aces. Carvalho surpassed 250 assists on the season (254 A), contributing to 50 attacks. She added 15 digs to her line, while tallying four kills and two service aces.Â
The Titans battled through 10 ties and two lead changes in the opening set before New Mexico secured a 27-25 win. Together, Hall and
Kaia Herweg (16 kills) posted nine kills in the opening frame but could not defend back-to-back points from the Lobos to close out the set.Â
Hall and Hananh Hass (11 kills) fueled the Titans offense in the second set, using a 4-3 scoring run to even the score at 14-14. Momentum stayed with the Titans late into the set as Herweg and
Zariah Crosby smashed late kills, but New Mexico rallied for a 25-22 victory and 2-0 match lead.Â
The Titans refused to fall in straight sets to the Lobos, sealing the third set with a 25-22 win. Fullerton hit .278 in the third frame with the help of Carvalho who assisted four different attackers. An early 12-3 lead allowed the Titans to maintain a steady pace ahead of the Lobos and force a fourth set.Â
A solo block by Herweg and a Crosby kill brought the match within one point (24-23), mirroring a closely-matched first set. New Mexico went on a 3-2 run at the end of the set to secure the match with a 25-23 win.Â
The Titans return to The Joust on Saturday to face Portland State at 11:00 a.m.Â
