RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Volleyball fell in straight sets to Portland State (22-25, 18-25, 23-25) on Saturday at Van Dyne Gym, closing out The Joust tournament with a 0-3 record. The Titans now stand at 4-5 overall.Â
Despite the loss,
Ketesia Hall and
Kahea Carvalho were named to the All-Tournament Team. In three games, Hall tallied 42 kills on .218 hitting with 31 digs and nine blocks. Carvalho recorded 116 assists over the weekend with 36 digs and six kills.Â
Against Portland State, Hall paced the Titans with 11 kills and three blocks, while Carvalho added 32 assists and 13 digs. As a team, the Titans hit .216 to Portland State's .272.Â
The Titans jumped to an early 2-0 lead on two
Zariah Crosby (7 kills, seven blocks) block parties assisted by Hall and
Kaia Herweg. Crosby and Hall combined at the net to tie the set at 14-14 before the Vikings evened the set at 21-21 on a kill. Crosby fended off a set point with her fourth kill of the day but could not stop the Vikings from taking the set 25-22.Â
After trailing 15-10 in the second set, the Titans used a 4-0 run to bring the set within one point at 15-14. Defensive struggles by the Titans issued the Vikings four kills for a 25-18 set win and 2-0 match advantage.Â
Fullerton found momentum in the third set, taking a 6-3 lead over the Vikings before a pair of handling errors and a kill evened the set at 6-6. The Titans powered through eight ties and three lead changes, finding 13 kills and a 21-21 tie on a kill by Hass. Portland State responded with four of the next six points, securing the sweep with a 25-23 edge over the Titans.Â
The Titans head to Beaumont, Texas for their final non-conference tournament of the season on Friday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20. Their time at the Lamar Invitational will kick off on Friday against Lamar University at 11:00 a.m. and Abilene Christian at 2:00 p.m.Â
