Dominant Debut at Mark Covert Classic

The Titans men’s and women’s cross country teams each finished in first as they hosted the the Mark Covert Classic on Saturday morning.

FULLERTON, Calif.– The Fullerton Titans kicked off the 2025 season with a strong start at the Mark Covert Classic. The Titans had two runners in the top five in both the men's and women's races. The men recorded a team score of 32, finishing in first of eight teams, while the women also finished in first of seven with 33 points.
 
Bella Smith highlighted the event with her first place finish in the women's 6k with a time of 20:35.0. Fellow Titan, Makena Oliva, crossed the finish line at 21:17.3, placing fifth in her first collegiate cross country race.
 
Shandy Moore followed behind Oliva, placing eighth with her new personal-best 21:32.0 time, while Caitlyn Cilley and Quinn Roldan finished two seconds apart in 10th and 11th. Ashylnn Viramontes and Barbora Svobodova stuck together, finishing three seconds apart at 21:49 and 21:52. Fiona Holloway and Cassandra Apahidean rounded out the top 20, finishing in 17th and 20th in the women's race.
 
Natalie Maahs, Grace Toriz, Natalyn Membreno, Kalei Aoki-Chance and Lexi Cilley each made their season debut at the Mark Covert Classic.
 
On the men's side, Justin Singer finished in second place with a new personal-best time of 24:07.0. Nathanial Avila crossed the line just four seconds later, securing a third place finish, also setting a new personal-best (24:11.3). Freshmen, Dylan Jubak and Andrew Quast made their way into the top ten of the men's race with seventh and ninth place finishes.
 
Carlos Maradiaga, Jaden Wiley and Jacob Brown rounded out the men's top 20 as Maradiaga placed 11th and Wiley and Brown two seconds apart in 18th and 19th. Luke Hitchcock, Logan Harris, Matthew Kluber and Diego Mejia also made their season debuts on Saturday morning.
 
The Titans hit the course again at the UCR Invite on Saturday, Sept. 27.
