Titans Finish 22nd at NCAA West Regionals in Sacramento

The Titans continued their postseason racing in Sacramento on Friday at the Cross Country NCAA West Regionals.

Sacramento, Calif. – The Titans headed up to the State Capitol on Friday morning to race in the Cross Country NCAA West Regionals hosted by Sacramento State. Head Coach Marques Barosso sent a total of 14 athletes, seven from each team, to compete at Regionals.

Both teams recorded a 22nd place finish. The men were 22 of 30 while the women were 22 of 39. On the women's side, Stanford won the race as a team while Oregon won it all on the men's side.

The women started the race at the tail end in 26th but bumped up to 23rd for the next two splits and as a team pushed during the final split to advance one more spot for a 22nd place finish.

Bella Smith led the way for the women as she recorded a 21:16.9 6k, a 36 second improvement from the Big West Championships. Her time on Friday put her in 79th out of 263. Quinn Roldan was the next Titan to cross the finish line with her time of 21:48.7.

Makena Oliva and Shandy Moore were the pair of Titans to finish within .3 seconds of each other, crossing the line at 22:05.0 and 22:05.3.  Ashlynn Viramontes and Barbora Svobodova were another pair that stuck together through the race. The two finished 10 seconds apart. Rounding out the women's team was Caitlyn Cilley at 23:39.9.

The men also finished in 22nd as a team after beginning in 18th and eventually falling behind to 22nd. Fullerton was able to hang onto that place for the final four splits, for a final 22nd place finish.

Nathaniel Avila led the men in 61st with a time of 30:37.6, a new personal best in the 10k. Justin Singer logged a 31:56.5 finish in the men's 10k. Luke Hitchcock ran his first collegiate 10k and recorded a time of 32:07.7, while Carlos Maradiaga ran a 32:15.8 mark in his first 10k.

The pair of Titans freshmen, Andrew Quast and Jacob Brown, rounded out the 10k with Quast finishing at 32:19.6 and Brown at 33:14.2.
