Titans Turn in Strong Performances at Big West Cross Country Championships

The Titans raced around Queen Kapi’olani Regional Park in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday morning as they competed at the Big West Cross Country Championships.

Honolulu, Hawaii – The Cal State Fullerton Titans cross country teams packed up and headed to Hawaii to compete at the Big West Cross Country Championships on Friday morning. The men nabbed a third place team finish while the women finished in fifth.
 
The men tallied 98 points, recording a third place finish. The Titans held their third place spot in the first two splits before they dropped down to as low at sixth in the fourth split. The team began to speed up as they neared the final stretch, resulting in a third place team finish behind Cal Poly and UC Davis.
 
Nathaniel Avila was the top Titans runner with a quick time of 24:52.8 finishing in 12th place. Justin Singer was two spots behind Avila with a 25:02.4 mark. Luke Hitchcock and Carlos Maradiaga finished within four seconds of each other. The pair of Titans crossed the finish line at 25:16.5 and 25:20.1 in 19th and 20th place. Jacob Brown ran a 25:44.2 8k, rounding out the top 40 at the Big West Championship.
 
Jaden Wiley, Andrew Quast, Matthew Kubler, Samuel Berhane, and Dylan Jubak were among the Titans that contributed to the Titans' podium finish at the conference Championships on Friday.
 
The women's team logged a fifth place team finish with 150 points. Bella Smith led the 10 Titans in 14th place with a 21:52.2 mark. The team began in ninth and worked their way up, hitting sixth in the third split and holding a steady fifth place spot for the remainder of the race.
 
Shandy Moore, Barbora Svobodova, Makena Oliva and Ashlynn Viramontes owned four spots between 31 and 37 on the leaderboard. Caitlyn Cilley recorded a 22:56.5 finish at the conference championships.
 
Natalyn Membreno and Cassandra Apahidean finished as a pair at 64 and 65, finishing one second apart. Another pair of Titans crossed the line two seconds apart at 71 and 72. Quinn Roldan crossed at 23:58.8 while Natalie Maahs finished at 24:00.5.
 
The Titans are back in action on Nov. 14 at the NCAA West Regionals in Sacramento, Calif.
