TULSA, Okla. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer battled back from a late two goal deficit, scoring twice in the final 10 minutes to earn a 2-2 draw in its season opener at Oral Roberts Thursday night.Â
Fullerton fell behind early, giving up the opening goal in the first two minutes of playing before going down 2-0 in the 17th minute.Â
The Titans never stopped attacking, creating several scoring opportunities in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net.Â
The second half was a lot of the same on the offensive side for the Titans with plenty of scoring chances but no goals to show for it.Â
Jonathan Grado finally broke through for the Titans, scoring in the 82nd minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Grado scored off a corner kick following a loose ball in the 18-yard box.Â
An unusual sequence unfolded in the 86th minute that led to the game-tying goal. Aiden Bengard snuck up behind the Oral Roberts goalkeeper after a save and stole the ball before passing to Jorge Quintero who put a shot on net.Â
Freshman Alex Lugo deflected the shot to the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2. Lugo's first collegiate goal comes as a last minute game-tying goal in the season opener.Â
The Titans start the season 0-0-1 after a gritty comeback to earn a draw at Oral Roberts. Fullerton is back in action Sunday night at Tulsa with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. PT.
