Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's season came to an end after losing to Hawaii, 16-4, in an elimination game Friday night at Goodwin Field.Ā

The Titans flipped the script from game one of the tournament, taking an early 1-0 lead with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Fullerton strung together three straight singles to start the game, capped off by an RBI single by Matthew Bardowell to score Maddox Latta.Ā

However, Fullerton failed to put a rally together to put more pressure on Hawaii, hitting into a double play and striking out with runners on first and second and no outs.Ā

Hawaii immediately responded with three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.Ā

Fullerton had a golden opportunity in the home half of the second but were unable to score any runs with the bases loaded.Ā

Hawaii extended its lead in the fourth inning, scoring one run to take a 4-1 lead.Ā

The Titans scored one run on an infield hit by Max Ortega in the sixth that scored Bardowell and cut the deficit to 5-2. However, the Titans left runners on the corners, failing to capitalize and score more runs.Ā

Hawaii pulled away in the seventh inning, scoring five runs to take a 10-2 lead.Ā

Fullerton never gave up, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run double by Carter Johnstone to score Latta and Paul Contreras to make it a 10-4 game.

Hawaii added six runs in the ninth to extend the lead to 16-4.
