Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Titans Drop Final Home Game against No.3 Hawaii

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo lost in their final "home" game of the season on Sunday against the No. 3 University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine 14-4 at Fullerton College.

The No. 3 Rainbow Wahine (18-4, 7-0 BWC) clinched the Big West Regular Season Championship and will be the No. 1 seed in the Big West Tournament held at UC Irvine.  The Titans will be the 8th seed and will take on the Rainbow Wahine once again on Friday, April 25th at the Anteaters Aquatic Complex at UC Irvine. 

The Titans were able to celebrate senior day and honor the ten members of the senior class in a pregame ceremony.  The ten members were Lacey Hall, Madelyn Halva, Destiny Hernandez, Stephanie Hidalgo, Taylor Mason , Annabelle Sherman, Eden Tal, Neida Torres, Hannah Wilson, and Gabrielle Zaretskiy.

Destiny Hernandez led the Titans offensively with two goals and Jade Lonzo and Gabrielle Zaretskiy also dented the twine.  Annabelle Sherman made 9 saves in the cage for the Titans.

In the first quarter, neither side could score in the early going of the period.  The Rainbow Wahine finally broke the deadlock at the 4:17 mark in the first quarter and scored three times in the period and led 3-0 after the first quarter.

Hawaii scored the first goal of the second quarter before the Titans finally found the back of the net through Destiny Hernandez to make it a 4-1 game.
 

Hawaii scored again before Hernandez added her second tally of the day on a 5-meter penalty to make it a 5-2 game.
 

The 'Bows however scored five more times in the final four minutes and led 10-2 at halftime.

Hawaii only outscored the Titans 2-to-1 in the final two frames as Jade Lonzo struck for the Titans in the third quarter.
 

Gabrielle Zaretskiy converted a 5-meter penalty in the fourth quarter to give the Titans their fourth goal of the game.
 

The Titans will close out the regular season on Friday when they head to UC Davis. The opening swim-off is set for 6:00 PM against the Aggies.
