Fullerton Falls to Arizona State on the Road

PHOENIX – Cal State Fullerton dropped Tuesday's midweek matchup at Arizona State by a final score of 14-4 in seven innings. The Titans drop to 13-15 on the year with the loss.

Fullerton's first inning struggles on the mound continued, giving up four runs in the bottom of the first to fall behind early.

Arizona State added two runs in the second and third inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

The Titans got on the board in the top half of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Max Ortega to score Matthew Bardowell from third base. Bardowell hit a one-out double to the left-center gap before advancing to third on an error by a Sun Devil outfielder.

The Sun Devils added four runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 12-1.

Fullerton scored three runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 12-4. With runners on first and second, Waldie Perez recorded an RBI on the longest single you'll see to right field to bring home Isaiah Gomez. Perez was forced to go back to first after rounding the base and seeing the base runner in front of him not advancing to third.

Carter Johnstone drove home TJ Stottlemyre from third base on a blooper to center field that dropped in between the center fielder and second baseman. Bardowell added a sacrifice fly in the fifth, scoring Perez from third.

Arizona State scored two more runs in the home half of the sixth inning to take a 14-4 lead.

Fullerton looks to bounce back Wednesday evening at Grand Canyon. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
