PHOENIX – Cal State Fullerton bounced back to split the midweek in Arizona after defeating Grand Canyon 4-2 Wednesday night. The Titans improve to 14-15 on the year with the win.Â
The Titans fell behind early, giving up one run in the bottom of the first inning. However, Brady Dockan did an excellent job limiting the damage after loading the bases with no outs. Dockan had some help from Matthew Bardowell who gunned down a runner at home plate to end the inning.
Dockan ended up going 3.1 innings, giving up just one run on four hits while walking one and striking out one.Â
Fullerton was held scoreless until the fifth inning when a fielding error by Grand Canyon allowed Bardowell to score from second base and tie the game at 1-1.Â
Jack Burke added a three-run home run in the fifth to extend the Titans lead to 4-1. For Burke, it is his first home run in a Titan uniform.Â
The Titans bullpen came through down the stretch to maintain the lead. Ryan Faulks (1-1) earned the win after pitching 1.1 shutout innings.Â
Jason Blood allowed just one run in 3.1 innings pitched while walking one and striking out four. Andrew Wright closed out the game in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season. Â
Fullerton returns to Big West action this weekend with a three-game series at CSUN. Game one of the series is Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
