Titans Swept by Cal Poly After Dropping Series Finale

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball dropped the series finale to Cal Poly by a final score of 10-4 Sunday afternoon at Baggett Stadium. The Titans fall to 4-11 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.

Fullerton got off to a good start as Brady Dockan pitched back-to-back shutout innings to start the game while the offense struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the third.

With runners on the corners and one out in the third inning, Carter Johnstone singled to center field to drive in Maddox Latta from third base and give the Titans an early lead.

Waldie Perez was then able to score on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to extend the Titans lead to 2-0.

Matthew Bardowell added to the Titans lead with a single through the left side of the infield to bring home Johnstone and put the Titans up 3-0. Bardowell went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI. The senior leads the team with a .375 batting average.

Cal Poly responded with one run in the bottom of the third inning to cut Fullerton's lead to 3-1. Dockan was able to limit the damage, stranding a Mustang runner at third base.

In his second collegiate start, Dockan allowed three earned runs on five hits in 3.2 innings pitched while striking out three batters and not issuing a walk. Dockan drew the loss to drop to 0-1 this season.

The Mustangs scored seven runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth to take a commanding 10-3 lead.

Dylan Smith had another strong outing in relief for Fullerton, tossing two shutout innings while giving up just two hits and striking out two batters. Smith hasn't allowed a run in his last three appearances (four innings) while giving up just three hits.

The Titans scored one run in the eighth inning on an RBI groundout by Andrew Kirchner. The first-year transfer extends his conference-leading RBI to 24.

Cal Poly's Ethan Marmie earned the win after giving up four earned runs on five hits in 7.2 innings pitched.

Fullerton is back in action Tuesday night as it hosts USC at Goodwin Field. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
