WICHITA, Kan. – With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Wichita State hit a walkoff two-run home run to defeat Fullerton 5-4 Friday evening at Eck Stadium. The Titans fall to 1-8 on the year with the loss. 

After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Titans immediately responded with three runs in the top of the third to take the lead. 

Eli Lopez led-off the third inning with a double before Cam Burdick was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up 90 feet following a balk to give the Titans runners at second and third with no outs. However, the next two Titans were unable to drive in a run. 

With runners on second and third and two outs, Andrew Kirchner stepped to the plate and crushed a ball over the left field wall to give the Titans a 3-1 lead.

The Titans extended their lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning as Kirchner worked a bases loaded walk to bring home Lopez. Kirchner has three games this season with four RBI and has a team-high 16 RBI this season. 

Wichita State answered with one run in the bottom half of the fifth inning to cut the Titans lead to 4-2. The Shockers added one run in the seventh inning to make it a one-run game, 4-3. 

Mikiah Negrete moved to the Friday starter this week after starting on Saturday the previous two weekends. Negrete gave up two runs on six hits in five innings pitched while walking two and striking out four batters. 

Gavin Meyer came on in relief in the sixth and allowed just one run on two hits in two innings pitched. 

Fullerton missed an opportunity to add to its lead in the eighth inning after having a runner on second with no outs followed by the runner on third with one out. The Titans next two batters struck out to leave the runner stranded. 

Jason Krakoski drew the loss for Fullerton after giving up the game-winning home run in the ninth inning. Aaron Arnold earned the win for Wichita State after getting the final two outs of the top half of the ninth inning. 

The Titans look to bounce back in game two at Wichita State Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. PT.
