Titans Fall to Fresno State in Series Finale

FRESNO, Calif. – First inning troubles on the mound plagued the Titans in the series finale against Fresno State, giving up 12 runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 13-7 loss Sunday afternoon at Bob Bennett Stadium. With the loss the Titans drop to 1-6 on the year.

Fullerton got off to a strong start, scoring two runs in the top half of the first on a two-run single by Max Ortega to bring home Marcos Rosales and Andrew Kirchner.

Fresno State came storming back in the bottom of the inning with 12 runs on 10 hits. Payton Hawkinson drew the loss after giving up the first six runs on four hits while not recording an out.

The Titans kept fighting to get back in the game, scoring one run in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Matthew Bardowell. The senior has now homered in back-to-back games.

Fresno State scored one run in the sixth inning to retake a 10-run lead, 13-3. After the first inning the Titans bullpen allowed just one run the rest of the game. Brady Dockan had a strong outing on the mound, tossing 3.2 shutout innings while giving up just three hits and striking out two batters.

Fullerton scored four runs in the seventh inning thanks to a three-run home run from Rosales. The redshirt freshman homered in all three games this weekend. The Titans added one more run in the inning on a bases-loaded walk by Jack Burke. Fullerton missed an opportunity to score a big number and put the pressure on the Bulldogs as they left the bases loaded in the seventh.

The Titans are back in action Tuesday night as USC comes to Goodwin Field for a midweek matchup. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
