Baseball Drops Series Opener at Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif.  – First inning and two-out runs plagued the Titans once again as Fresno State took Friday night's series opener by a final score of 7-4 at Bob Bennett Stadium. Fullerton drops to 0-5 to start the season with the loss.

Fresno State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Through five games the Titans have been out scored 12-3 in the first inning.

The Titans came back to take the lead in the top of the third inning on a three-run home run by Marcos Rosales. Waldie Perez and Eli Lopez got on-base thanks to a pair of singles before Rosales smashed his first home run of the season and fourth of his career.

Fullerton wasn't able to get a shutout inning it needed in the bottom half of the third as Fresno State scored one run to tie the game at 3-3.

Jason Blood got his second straight Friday start and gave up three runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched while walking two batters and striking out five.

The Bulldogs scored in every other inning throughout the game, adding two more runs in the fifth and two in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead. Of the seven runs given up by the Titans, five of them came with two outs on the board.

Fullerton battled to get back in the game, scoring one run in the eighth inning on an Andrew Kirchner triple to center field to score Lopez from second base and cut the deficit to 7-4.

Derek Turner drew the loss for Fullerton after allowing four runs on three hits in 2.2 innings of work. Ryan Faulks pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit while walking one and striking out three batters.

The Titans look to bounce back and get their first win of the season in game two against Fresno State Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
