TEMPE, Ariz. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo split Day One at the Cross Conference Invitational hosted by Arizona State by falling to RV Long Island University 11-6 in the first game before coming back later that afternoon and taking down Iona 13-8 at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
CAL STATE FULLERTON 6, LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY 11
The Titans and Sharks played a great first three quarters in the first game of the morning before running out of gas in the fourth quarter.  The Titan's were down 8-6 heading into the final quarter but were held scoreless during the fourth quarter as the Sharks scored three times in the final frame.
Destiny Hernandez led the Titans in scoring with two goals while
Delaney Latham,
Neida Torres,
Jade Lonzo, and
Elise Bliss also scored in the first game.
Hernandez scored the first goal of the game before the Sharks equalized. Â
Delaney Latham also scored in the first quarter to put the Titans up 2-1 before the Sharks got two more goals before the period ended and led 3-2 after one.
Neida Torres tied the game up at 3-3 to start the second quarter before the Sharks scored two unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.
The Sharks scored the first goal via a penalty in the third quarter to take a 6-3 lead. Â The Titans got some mometum back as
Jade Lonzo and
Elise Bliss scored back-to-back goals to make it a 6-5 game.
The Sharks and Titans would trade goals one more time as
Destiny Hernandez scored the final goal of the quarter to make it 7-6 for the Titans.
The Titans couldn't get the rock moving offensively in the fourth quarter as the Sharks went on a 4-0 run to finish the game and take the win over the Titans.
CAL STATE FULLERTON 13, IONA 8
The Titans had to rally from a 2-1 deficit against Iona in the second game of the day. Â The Titans took a commanding 8-3 lead after outscoring the Gaels 7-to-1 in the second and third quarters. Â Both sides scored five goals a piece in the fourth quarter as the Titans were able to rotate in a lot of their players.
Taylor Mason led the Titans with 2 goals in the second game while
Emme Doube-MacLeod led the Titans with 4 points on one goal and three assists. Â The Titans had 12 different goalscorers in the game as

Destiny Hernandez,
Delaney Latham,
Taylor Mason,
Neida Torres,
Mia Solorzano,
Eden Tal,
Jade Lonzo, Doube-MacLeod,
Mia Hatch,
Tess Henke, and
Ileina Hatori all scored in the game.
Annabelle Sherman made 8 saves for the game against the Sharks.
Neida Torres scored the only goal for the Titans in the first quarter as the Gaels scored twice and led 2-1 after one.
The Titans took a 5-2 lead in the second quarter after goals from Hernandez, Solorzano, Latham, and Doube-MacLeod.
In the third quarter,
Taylor Mason scored a brace to start the quarter. Â
Jade Lonzo also found the back of the net before the Gaels scored their first goal since the 1st quarter to make it an 8-3 game.
The fourth quarter saw 10 goals overall and five from each side as the Titans were able to rotate in some fresh players. Â Hatori, Tal, Halva, Henke, and Hatch all scored for the Titans in the quarter. Â
Sienna Bertsch played in goal over the final four minutes.
Annabelle Sherman made 9 saves for the game while
Sienna Bertsch made one save.
The Titans will conclude the Cross Conference Invitational with two games tomorrow. Â They take on No. 10 Arizona State to start the day at 8:00 AM before finishing off the tournament against Salem University at 11:45 a.m.
