Seaman and Williams Highlight Titans Second Half Push

Landon Seaman and Christian Williams had stellar second half performances in Fullerton’s attempted comeback.

Stillwater, Okla. – The Cal State Fullerton Titans put on a show against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, despite the 94-89 loss. Landon Seaman recorded his first double double as a Titan, while three other Titans tallied double digit points and freshman, Christian Williams nabbed six three-pointers.

The Titans had a rocky start, logging only two points, both off of free throws in the first four minutes. The Cowboys were quick to take a 16-2 lead, with 16 minutes left in the first half. Fullerton started to make baskets, but so did OSU, eventually taking a 17-point lead over the Titans. Late in the first half, CSF tallied six consecutive points, their longest scoring run of the half.  OSU held on to a 16-point, 50-34 lead, going into the second half.

Fullerton shot 43% and only netted five of their 15 first half free throws, translating to their first half deficit. Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro led the team with nine points and two steals before halftime.

In the second half, Fullerton stepped up on both sides of the ball. The Titans outscored the Cowboys 55-44 in the second half, shooting 58% and improving to 12 for 19 at the charity stripe.

The Titans opened the second half with an offensive shift, posting nine unanswered points, bringing them within nine. Just a minute later, CSF posted another six consecutive points before going on a 10-point scoring run, for a 60-62 game.

The Titans continued to chip away at the Cowboys in the final 10 minutes, bringing the game to a one-point difference three times, but OSU came out on top after some last-minute drama on the court. Freshman, Williams banked a three pointer with 24 seconds remaining, bringing the Titans within two, before there was some miscommunication with the officials, eventually sending OSU to the line to shoot a pair of technical free throws, sealing the win for the Cowboys.

Seaman tallied seven of his 10 attempts at the line, contributing to his 15-point second half performance. Williams also tallied 15 points in the second half, all coming from behind the arc. The freshman was 5 for 6 at the three-point line.

Seaman posted his first double-double as a Titan with 19 points and 13 rebounds while Williams, Joshua Ward and De La Cruz Monegro also tallied double digit points against the Cowboys. De La Cruz Monegro led the team with 20 points and three steals while tallying four assists and two rebounds. Williams had a career-game at the three-point line, logging 18 points off of six three's.

The Titans are back in action next Sunday, Dec. 28, when they head to SMU at 12 p.m.
