Titans Fall to SMU in Final Non-Conference Game

The Titans closed out 2025 at SMU for the final non-conference game of the season.

Dallas, Texas – The Cal State Fullerton Titans faced the SMU Mustangs on Sunday for the final non-conference game of the season. The Titans had a disappointing first half which led to the 63-110 loss on the road.

SMU came in hot, taking a 10-0 lead through the first four minutes of play. Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro was the first Titan to find the basket, finally putting Fullerton on the board. The Titans slowly tallied baskets before the Mustangs went on a two minute, 13-0 run, nearing the end of the first half.

The Titans posted 19 in the first half while the Mustangs logged 51. Joshua Ward and Landon Seaman each tallied five in the first half for Fullerton. The team shot 22% from the field and were three for 17 from behind the arc. The Titans 12 turnovers led to 18 points for SMU.

The Titans showed improvements in the second half, but SMU built themselves a very comfortable lead in the first half, making it hard for Fullerton to come back. The Titans were five for 15 from the three-point line and shot 41% in the second half. Their ball control improved a bit, allowing seven turnovers and forcing seven Mustang turnovers in which the Titans tallied eight points from.

Ward led the team with 16 points, seven assists, four steals and four rebounds. KJ Garris was the only other Titan to tally double-digit points in their non-conference finale, with 13.

The Titans head back home to Titan Gym to ring in the New Year on Thursday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. to take on UC Santa Barbara.
