Santa Barbara, Calif. – The Titans headed up to Santa Barbara for the final Big West matchup of the regular season. The Titans had a slow start but shifted momentum in the second half against the No. 10 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. Fullerton outscored the Gauchos 9-5 in the final two quarters, but the Gauchos' second quarter shutout saved them, giving them a 14-11 win.
Alec Isaacman and
Bende Aubeli each netted one in the first half before UCSB's defense shut down the Titans. The Titans were unable to score a goal in the second quarter, while the Gauchos scored five.
After the half, the Titans posted four consecutive goals to begin their comeback attempt.
Andrew Barnuevo netted his second goal of the quarter with a minute left in the third. Santa Barbara logged two in the third, making it a 7-11 game heading into the final quarter.
The Gauchos started the fourth quarter scoring, posting back-to-back goals before
Jacob Hatch tallied his second of the day. Hatch went on to net another, logging his eighth career hat trick.
Ethan MacLeod and
Samuel Branco netted two within seven seconds of each other, but it was not enough to take down the Gauchos on their home territory.
Hatch led the team with three goals, an assist, drawn exclusion and a steal.
Julian Nichols led in assists with two. In the cage,
Ethan Ivey logged five saves and recorded two steals.
The Titans are back in the pool for the final regular season game at Cal Baptist on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11:00 a.m.
