Riverside, Calif. – The Titans went to visit the Lancers of CBU on Saturday morning and battled against the #16 team in the nation until the final minutes of the game. Freshman,
Francesco Schiaffino led the team with a hat trick against CBU.
The Lancers posted back-to-back goals to open the game, before the Titans scored three unanswered to take a lead at the end of the first. Schiaffino,
Andrew Barnuevo, and
Jacob Hatch went back-to-back-to-back to end the first quarter.
Freshman,
Luke Vargas, tallied one to extended Fullerton's lead at the start of the second quarter.
Ethan MacLeod and
Julian Nichols each tallied on to Fullerton's score while Schiaffino fired two more to the back of the cage for his second hat trick of his collegiate career. The Titans led 8-7 after the first half.
CBU stepped up with their defense in the second half as
Nico D'Angelo and Nichols were the only Titans that were able to make it past the Lancers' keeper in the third. CBU posted four, to take an 11-10 lead with one quarter to go.
Togan Ozbek netted one to tie the game at 11 with less than five minutes to go, but CBU answered back 20 seconds later and held onto their lead to seal the CBU win.
After losing the regular season finale in Riverside on Saturday, the Titans head home to immediately prepare for postseason play. Fullerton will compete as the No. 6 seed at the Big West Tournament which begins on Friday. The Titans are set to take on the No. 3 seed, UC Davis on Friday at 2 p.m. at Anteater Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif.
