Irvine, Calif. – The Titans wrapped up their season at Anteater Aquatics Complex on Friday as they competed in the Big West Conference Championships. Fullerton entered the championship ranked as the No. 6 seed and faced the No. 3 seed, UC Davis, who is nationally ranked at No. 8.
The Titans struck first in the match-up against UC Davis as
Alec Isaacman put one past the Aggies keeper in the first minute. UC Davis answered back with six straight goals to take a big lead over the Titans before
Francesco Schiaffino nabbed one with one second left on the game clock.
Nico D'Angelo opened the second quarter where CSF's defense really stepped up, only allowing the Aggies to score two. The Titans trailed 8-3 heading into the second half.
Senior,
Jacob Hatch, logged his 99
th goal of his CSF career off of a penalty shot to start the third quarter. Isaacman tallied his second of the day and freshmen,
Luke Vargas and Schiaffino each logged a goal in the third. The Titans outscored the Aggies 4-3, but still trailed 11-7 entering the final frame.
The Titans drew another penalty shot and sent Hatch to the line. He was successful on the penalty shot, for his 100
th career goal. In the final minute, Isaacman found the back of the cage, for his eighth career hat trick.
The Titans came out with a strong effort against UC Davis, but the Aggies' six unanswered goals in the first quarter eventually hurt them in a 14-9 loss at the Big West Championships.
Schiaffino, Isaacman and Hatch each recorded a multi-goal game while
Ethan Ivey tallied eight saves in the cage.
Hatch was welcomed into the 100-goal club in the latter half of the match against the Aggies. Hatch is one of four Titans to record 100 goals at Cal State Fullerton in just three years. The Titans that he joins in the 100-goal club are D'Angelo,
Julian Nichols, and
Togan Ozbek.
Head Coach,
Kyle Witt, complemented his team on their techniques on Friday as well as keeping their head up all season against a conference full of nationally ranked opponents. Coach Witt and the Titans look to take some time during the offseason to have another impressive season next year.
