De La Cruz Monegro Leads Titans, But Second-Half Struggles Cost Fullerton

Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro posts 21 points in Saturday’s loss at Wyoming.

Laramie, Wyo. – The Titans headed out on their first road trip of the season to take on the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday. Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro dropped 21 points against the Cowboys, but Wyoming stepped up in the second half and the Titans were unable to catch up.

CSF's first showing on Monday left Titans fans eager for more. In the first half of Saturday's matchup, Fullerton had their fans amped up as they kept it a close game in Arena Auditorium.

Senior transfer, De La Cruz Monegro, who went on to score 21 points on Saturday, started off the game with a beautiful shot from beyond the arc. Joshua Ward was next to score, to give the Titans an early five-point lead. After trading points back and forth between the two teams, the Titans went on a 10-point scoring run in two minutes to tie the game at 28 with five minutes left in the half.

After the two teams continued their back and forth action, De La Cruz Monegro netted a three-pointer with seven seconds remaining, to send the game to half time with a 38-38 tie.

Fullerton shot 48 percent in the first half but was only successful on two of their 10 attempted shots behind the line. The whole team contributed their best efforts as 15 of the first half points came off the bench and the Titans took advantage of the Cowboys as they scored nine from turnovers.

The Fullerton bench really stepped up in the second half as 27 of the 44 second half points were scored by bench players. The Titans had a shooting percentage of 39 in the second half, but it was not enough to catch up to the Cowboys. In the final minute of the game, the Titans made small mistakes that led to Wyoming free throws, eventually leading to an 82-92 win for the Cowboys.

De La Cruz Monegro continued to impress Titans fans as he logged 21 points, was 2-for-4 behind the arc, 9-for-10 at the free throw line, recorded five rebounds and tallied an assist, steal, and block to his stat line on Saturday.

The Titans are on the road again on Monday, Nov. 10 in Berkley, Calif. as they take on Cal at 7 p.m.
