NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer season came to an end on Thursday in the semifinals of the Big West Championship in a 1-0 loss against the No. 2 seeded Cal Poly.
It was an evenly matched affair between both sides as the Mustangs outshot the Titans 7-to-5 for the game. The Titans earned five corner kicks to the Mustangs two corner kicks.
After a scoreless first half neither side gave each an other an inch as both teams had two shots on goal. In the second half, the Titans turned up their intensity but still couldn't unlock the Mustangs defense.
Cal Poly earned a free kick in the 75th minute. On the ensuing kick into the box, the Mustangs were given a penalty kick after a video review for a foul inside the box that occurred off the ball.
Isaac Ranson guessed correctly on the penalty shot but Jessie Halladay's ball just went past him into the left side of the net to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
The Titans pushed hard for an equalizer over the final 15 minutes but couldn't get off a clean shot against the stout Mustang defense.
