Bench Shines, but Titans Drop Rainy-Day Matchup to Pacific

The Titans bench posted 51 of Fullerton’s 73 points against the Pacific Tigers on Saturday.

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Titans welcomed the Pacific Tigers on rainy Saturday afternoon for a non-conference matchup. After falling behind in the first half, the Titans stepped up and attempted a comeback at the start of the second half, but Pacific carried their momentum through the entire game, resulting in a 73-85 loss at Titan Gym.

The Pacific Tigers posted 12 unanswered points to start the game which gave them the momentum they needed to get through the game. The Titans finally made their way onto the board after five minutes of play, thanks to Jaden Henderson who came off the bench. In the first half, the Titans bench posted 12 of their 24 points. Henderson posted four in the first while Bryce Cofield, who also came off the bench, posted six and starter, Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro, led the team with eight.

The Titans did take advantage of Pacific's mistakes, posting 10 from turnovers, but the Tigers' 24 points in the paint ultimately put them on top 44-24 at the end of the first half.

Fullerton improved in the second half, posting almost double the number of points compared to the first half with 41, and shooting 42% compared to their 25% in the first half. Their pace in the back half led them to cutting down their deficit to as low as seven with nine minutes left.

Cofield opened the second half netting a three, followed by the Titans going on to score seven unanswered points. KJ Garris nabbed back-to-back shots from behind the arc, followed by Henderson from downtown, sending Titan Gym into a frenzy.

While the Titans cut down on their deficit and showed solid defense, the Tigers kept finding a way to the basket, sending them home with an 85-73 win.

The Titans continued to show a full-team effort with the bench tallying 51 of Fullerton's 73 points on Saturday. Cofield led the team with 18 points and three offensive rebounds. Garris led the team with a total of six rebounds. Henderson and Joshua Ward also logged double-digit points on Saturday, Henderson with 12 and Ward tallying 10.

The Titans head up to Portland, Ore. Next weekend for the Portland MTE where they will face Portland, St. Thomas, and Northern Colorado.
